About FOS, Secondary

Introduced in 1990, the Friend of Singa (FOS) programme began with the purpose of cultivating desirable behaviours and values in students. FOS Secondary programme is a year-long programme that is open to secondary, special education schools, madrasahs, and international schools.

FOS started out in schools to cultivate desirable values and qualities in students and to champion kindness in the school community. Students from participating schools are tasked to identify issues and they must implement a kindness campaign on campus to promote kindness within their school and community. It is intended that at the end of the campaign, participants will recognize the importance of their role in informing and encouraging desired behaviours; therefore making a difference.

FOS Programme Timeline

Project period: April - August

February

FOS Registration:
(1 - 31 January 2026)

Register your interest to start a kindness campaign in your school. By registration, your school indicates their commitment to deliver at least one kindness campaign (maximum three) to be recognised as a FOS School at the Friends of Singa Awards Ceremony.

Each school can gather up to three groups of students (with no capacity limit per group) to run their Kindness Campaign(s).

February - April

School-based Workshop

Schools are encouraged to sign up for a 3-hr 100% subsidised student workshop on campaign fundamental.

We are bringing the workshops closer to your schools! Selected schools from each cluster, North, South, East, West and Central will host these sessions, creating a convenient local setting.

April - August

Campaign Implementation
(April - August 2026)

Upon approval of proposals, students and teachers may embark on their campaigns between April to August.

Campaigns should:

  • Seek to address the chosen kindness theme and seek to make an impact on graciousness in school (advisable to be school wide).

  • Be well documented with photos and videos.

  • Strive to be cost efficient and sustainable.

Reports and claims are to be uploaded via the school's unique OneDrive link, which will be shared with teachers during registration.
*Teachers are welcome to submit reports earlier than the stipulated date.
**Late submissions will not be considered.

Ceremony

All participating students, teachers and schools in the FOS Secondary campaign will be recognised during the Friends of Singa Awards Ceremony 2027. Your school will be invited to hold your own ceremony in January 2027! See your school's kindness project(s) featured in our Kindness Awards Ceremony video, which will be released in January 2026. Your school will be invited to hold your own Kindness Awards Ceremony in January 2026!

Expressing Gratitude To Front-Line Workers
Pasir Ris Secondary School

The “Expressing Gratitude to Front-Line Workers at Public Transit Interchanges” project by Pasir Ris Secondary School involved teachers and 10 students visiting a bus interchange or train station, to express appreciation for front-line workers.

The students wrote thank-you notes and prepared care packs with gifts like snacks, beverages, and hygiene items to thank the workers for their dedication and service. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of acknowledging and valuing the contributions of front-line workers.
T.H.I.N.K.Before You Type 2024
Manjusri Secondary School

The campaign aimed to promote positive cyber interactions among Manjusrians by addressing online negativity and equipping students with skills to handle undesirable comments.

Using the T.H.I.N.K. routine (True, Hurtful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind), the campaign educated students on mindful online posting. Engagement activities included a skit during morning assembly and interviews about students’ negative online experiences, showcased in CCE lessons. Students participated in quizzes and contributed to an online Kudos! Board, fostering a kinder and more supportive online environment.
Let Them Cook
Raffles Institution

The “Let them cook” project aimed to promote kindness towards canteen vendors by helping students appreciate their hard work. To raise awareness, students interned at the school’s Mama Delights stall, assisting with cooking, money handling, and portioning noodles, gaining insight into the vendors’ daily challenges. A video documenting the experience was played in the canteen, and 500 tissue packets with kind messages were distributed. Posters and table decals were also placed around the school to reinforce the message of appreciation.
SSTand United, Be Greater
School of Science and Technology

This social media campaign highlighted the problem of casual racism between students in school, which caused tension and unhappiness between friends. It educated students about the issues casual racism can cause, and encouraged everyone to stand united against casual racism together.

The campaign ran across the school’s social media platforms – on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. It explained what casual racism is, gave clear examples of casual racism that occurs in school, and motivated viewers to be more accepting, understanding and inclusive of people of different races.

Students who participated in the campaign received an orange ribbon, which showed that they are willing to take a stand and say no to casual racism.

The campaign was a great start in the fight against casual racism. 70% of students stated that they now understand what casual racism is. 74% also shared that they have not witnessed any more acts of casual racism among their peers.
Thanking the People Behind the Scenes
Crest Secondary School

This was a school-wide project to thank non-teaching staff, like the admin staff, librarians, technical support staff and cleaners, for their hard work.

The New Media Club created a music video to make Crestans aware of these staff’s sacrifices to make the school a conducive place to study and a comfortable home away from home. They rewrote song lyrics to express their appreciation and celebrate the staff’s contributions to the school.

In addition, every class prepared a 30-minute appreciation session for one or two non-teaching staff. Examples include games, parties, singing a song of appreciation and more. Throughout the school, all members of staff were appreciated.

The project helped Crestans bond with non-teaching staff, and helped everyone feel a stronger sense of love and belonging as one Crest Family.
Be a Bucket Filler, Be Greater!
Raffles Girls' School (Secondary)

Students filled up “buckets of happiness” by spreading kindness. Since everyone at school loves the Harry Potter books, the project adopted a fun Harry Potter theme.

Care for Magical Gaia  – Students immersed themselves in nature and learned ways to care for the planet.

Expecto Appreciation  – Students wrote post-cards of appreciation to those around them.

Kindness Publicity Posters – These featured snippets of kindness from the Harry Potter books, using everyone’s favourite characters to convey the magnificence of kindness.

Friends of Singa Workout – Exercise is a wonderful form of self-love. This routine featured Harry Potter-themed stretches and songs promoting self-love and confidence.
Be Greater!: The Web-Series
Anderson Secondary School

This web-series aimed to show how different challenges can be resolved with kindness. The school voted on three topics close to their hearts – jealousy, stress and peer pressure. The Kindness Ambassadors then produced a series of three videos that showed how a little kindness can help solve our problems, and goes a long way to making our lives better and brighter.
 
The series received overwhelming support from not only the students but adults too! They praised it for its creativity and innovation in spreading the word about showing kindness to one another.
 
3M – MOBILES, MIND AND MEANING
Tampines Secondary School

This project aimed to promote cyber kindness and proper netiquette among Tampinesians. Students shared cyber kindness messages, stories and netiquette tips on Instagram. While they were already aware of basic netiquette, they also learned new things, such as not to share pictures of others online without their permission.

The project also included a humourous yet eye-opening video that showed how mean comments made on social media can be just as hurtful as comments made in real life. The social media content engaged the whole school population, inspiring everyone to show kindness both offline and online.
